Today there are several famous wine blends that are produced in classic wine-growing regions and some of these blends are traditional in their method. A wine is a wine made from several varieties that ripens in the vineyard for a certain period of time, usually between two and three years. After fermentation and ageing, the wine matures in barriques for at least three to four years.
The complexity of the taste and aroma of a wine can be found in several facets that explain what fermentation produces. Almost all red wines are aged in oak barrels, where the oak contributes its aromatic compounds (vanillan) and serves as a channel to expose the wine to oxygen.
Oxidation and aging produce unique flavors, including nut buds, dried fruits and flower flavors, as well as a variety of flavors and aromas.
And that’s a good thing, because no matter how much you know, almost everyone can appreciate wine, regardless of age, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
It is common for wine to be labelled with the name of the grape variety, but when you see the year indicated on the label, it is not always true. Grapes need a whole season to ripen, and so wine is produced only once a year. The grapes are harvested every year and the wine is made from them, not the year in which they were harvested, or even the grapes themselves.

So a lot depends on what the grapes are and what a winemaker does with them, but also on the type of wine they produce.

Red wine contains antioxidant compounds that can fight disease and are associated with cardiovascular benefits when consumed in moderation. However, too much wine seems to outweigh these potential benefits, contributing to excess calories. Heavy drinking can also lead to weight gain, just to add to empty calories, according to the World Health Organization.
Depending on the type of wine, a glass delivers about 115 to 130 calories, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
